Appellate Practice

3 credits day; 3 credits evening.
In this course students will act as counsel, engage in written and oral exercises designed to develop the skills necessary to litigate an effective appeal. The course will include, among other topics, the following: perfecting the appeal, appellate procedure, assembling the record, research techniques, writing the brief and appellate oral advocacy. Each student will write a substantial brief from a record and then argue the brief before a simulated appellate tribunal. There are no prerequisites or final exam. Students will have to write an appellate brief.
